Main Bulkhead

After modeling the main bulkhead with a hot glue gun and door skins, I crafted the part with some strategic layering to handle the future shroud loads.  The opening is asymmetric to handle the fully retracted bow sprit.  Bieker and Hendo explained that the door opening needed to be bomber to eliminate cracks propagating from the corners, so I wet out a strip of 9oz uni-directional carbon between sheets of polyfilm and had good luck slicing it into ribbons on the plotter.  Hollowing back the core was done very carefully with an MDF jig and router bit.

If you do this, cut the carbon ribbon into relatively short segments.  The long strips were not able to slide on themselves within the vacuum bag, so the resulting part wasn't packed as tight in the trench as one might hope.
