The transom on this boat was so out of wack that it took countless layers of Awlfair to get her squared up. After removing the gelcoat, and glassing in the pucks for the backstay attachments, I think I sanded this thing with the 30" board through at least ten rounds of filler. That's a pretty embarrassing thing to admit.
One trick to perhaps mention is an idea I picked up a long time ago from "Shaping 101," a
VHF tape by John Carper. He had this way of making consistent rail shapes on surfboards by doing them as a series of bevels, only knocking the corners at the very end of the process. It's a pretty good hack for getting an even fillet radius throughout.
Here is the end result with some rolled 545 applied, but not yet sanded.
